First of all, we came up with sixteen activities which use English, and we chose seven activities from them: Past tense ball, Color command, Active break, Vocabulary race, Flag game, Music chairs and Corner with vocabulary, by considering the student's English level. In the fifth grade, they are studying vocabulary and basic sentences such as past tense and future tense and so on so we tried to include some activities that will help them to improve their vocabulary and understand past tence.
We visited Sankt Annae Skole two times on September twentieth and twenty eighth and did the activities in fifth grade (with twenty-five students) English class which is forty-five minutes per lesson because we thought that they have enough skills to speak and understand English compares to the second and fourth grades. On the first day, we did three activities: Past tense ball, Color command and Active break. On the second day, we did the rest of the activities: Vocabulary race, Flag game, Music Chairs and Corners with vocabulary.
We planned hard to improve our work efficiency. Firstly, we wanted to know how students and the classroom are, so we did low intensity activities in the classroom as the first lesson. Moreover, we wanted to students to learn English and have fun to do the activities, so we tried to explain the activities in English as much as we can before we did the activities and enjoyed with the students together by using English.
We learned that sometimes the classroom became loud, so it was difficult to get students' attention in the first lesson. However, we could use some postures to get their attention. From the first day, we decided to use a timer to manage the time on the second day so that we can do our activities smoothly. Also, we asked the teacher if we could use another room on the second day because we wanted to use a bigger room to make students move more. (make higher intensity activities) Furthermore, we prepared some materials for the activities before the lesson.
On the second day, we included some team-up activities because we wanted them to talk to the students they don't talk to as usual and make new friends through the activities. In the activities, all of the group talked to each other well and seemed like they could build a strong bond while they're doing the activities. Also, they were motivated to learn English compares to usual class.
